Thanks a lot! That sounds like a awesome country to bike in! Where are you going from and to? When you ask about gearing you mean my gear system on the bike and not '' my equipment I bring''? The gear system is a internal gear system called pinion, a bit expensive but really awesome:)

I'm just going to stay in one place in the North of the island and cycle each day from and then back to the hotel. It's supposed to be perfect for cyclists, nice smooth roads, incredible views and quiet roads... I just hope it isn't too hot! I mean which size chain rings and cassette are you using. If it was me and I was riding so far and with a lot of heavy bags on my bike I would need to make some changes to the bike to make it easier to get up those 8% mountains. But maybe you are a very strong rider! haha

Wow sounds really awesome man! How long will you be biking in the area for? Yeah I think both us will be dealing with the heat this summer then, haha:) i don't have the specs in my head right now sadly and I'm no expert, I'm in fact very new to the biking world. The steepest I have tried is 11% and that was just about the lowest gear I could hit and still be able to keep moving. And no Iam no strong biker at all, you would be amazed what chicken legs I had before I started the trip, hahah:)

I'm going to be there for one week, the cycling season is typically Feb-May but oh well, I was just too keen to get away and cycle somewhere new that I'm willing to try to put up with the heat. The part of England where I live in is very flat so I'm no king of the mountains either. Last summer I tried to ride up L'Angliru in Northern Spain on a friends bike, I'm embarrassed to say I got off and walked up some of the toughest sections (up to 23%!). I had only been cycling properly for a few months at the time so I'm looking forward to going back and conquering it (without walking) in the future.

23% is also really crazy, I have had a few really steep sections but I am not sure how steep they were, enough that I also had to drag a little off the bike:) but I think with time I got stronger as well! So maybe I got some hills I would have to get revenge on someday as well!
