I remember going up the tower when I was there - two bemusing things happened. One, you only go so far as that small bridge - I still thought it was pretty cool but my friend was pissed off haha. Secondly, outside some old asian ladies wanted to take a picture with me and my friend like we were celebrities. My friend - a pretty blond - was totally nonplussed and just posed with them. I was super put out. My friend had just come from China and said that was super normal and that they would have been really taken aback by me because I am about 2m tall and really pale haha.
Yes, getting asked for pictures and selfies! I find this doesn't happen so much in Malaysia these days compared to other part s of the world in which tourism isn't main stream business. It can become a little intimidating at times when one gets surrounded by generally well meaning locals that just have an interest in finding out where you're from and exchanging a few friendly words. It's true though that you get a taste for what it's like being a celebrity.....not always great 😅
