A small cozy park in the city of Kiryat Bialik
This small green park is located in the city of Kiryat Bialik in the north of Israel, right in the heart of quiet residential neighborhoods that called Afek. The area of the park is no more than 1 km². The park grounds are covered with green grass , and trees are planted in rows. In the part adjacent to the road, there is a children's playground.
From the very early morning, the park is filled with peace and quiet. Birds are chirping . Sun rays filter through the thick tree canopy and gently fall on the green grass. A drip irrigation system is installedf in the park to maintain the freshness of the greenery and prevent the summer heat from destroying all the plants. Throughout the day, you can see many birds on the green lawns , rummaging through the soil between the blades of grass in search of insects and worms. Most often, these are hoopoes , wild turtle doves, and mynas.
Among the trees that I was able to identify while walking through this park, I can name Acacia, Jacaranda, Ficus benghalensis, and also several palm trees planted along the pedestrian path. Jacaranda blooms with bright lilac flowers in May and early June, but at the moment it has already finished blooming. The acacia tree I noticed in this park blooms with bright yellow flowers. Early in the morning I stood under this tree and heard the steady buzzing of bees pollinating these flowers . Very unusual!
Ficus benghalensis is known for its aerial roots. And the underground roots are often located on the surface of the ground, and over the years they become more massive and gradually emerge above the surface . In cases where such a tree is planted near a pedestrian path, these rootsd often lift the asphalt and create a certain hazard for pedestrians , as it's easy to trip and fall in such places.
The photo shows a Ficus benghalensis from another place to demonstrate the aerial roots.
Along the entire park runs a pedestrian path paved with tiles, and on both sides of this path, palm trees are planted . Benches are placed along the sides of the path for those who wish to rest.
This path runs along the very edge so that no one crossesd the green zone in the center. I have a feeling that this natural corner was created not for people , but for birds and animals to provide them with maximum comfort for resting in the summer heat and finding food in the winter , so that in spring they can build nests and raise chicks.
In the eastern part of the park, there is a children’s playground. It is outdoors, under large shade canopies. It is very well equipped with various modern play elements. There are slides, ladders , swings, balance beams, and play panels. The surface of the playground is covered with a soft plastic and rubber coating . And in some places the coating resembles artificial grass.
At the entrance to the playground, there is a memorial plaque symbolizing the Myer family’s involvement in the life of the Jewish community. In 2010 they donated funds for the creation of this playground in memory of Alan Myer . He was a man loved and honored by his family.
Whoever you are — a traveler, a tourist, or simply a passerby — you can always find a shady corner in this park to rest from the heat, gather your strength, breathe in the fresh air filled with the fragrance of greenery, before continuing on your way.
