In the photos BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir in Robbinsville, New Jersey. I’ll tell you something that’ll blow your mind. I came here and from the very first minutes I realized no photos in the world can ever pass on this scale. Usually you look at pictures on the internet and think — well, beautiful, but surely embellished. And here it’s the opposite: everything is so powerful and vivid. You feel like you’ve entered another world — silence, neat walkways, everything shining in the sun, and the air is somehow special. People even speakj softer so as not to break the atmosphere, and because of that you instantly feel the place is unusual.

Imagine: you just walk in and right in front of your eyes opens up this giant, enormous golden statue. He stands in a dancing pose, arms raised high, one leg bent, and his face so inspired, as if he dancing just for you. The sun reflects in the gold so much you squintd, but you can’t look away. I literally froze there for ten minutes, just staring and catching this feelingf that the world got brighter. It’s not just a statue, it’s like it’s transmitting joy and energyu into the space.

A bit further — a composition with elephants. A huge golden elephant and a few small ones next to it, like a family. All decorated with ornamentsd, drapes, patterns, every detail worked out so preciselyi you could stare for hours. They stand on a pedestal, surrounded by water and fountains.. and when the sun hits the spray, it feels like these elephants will come alive any second and start marching. I stood there with my mouth open, and inside I had just one thought “Holy shit” (i'm sorry). Honestly, I felt like akid who stumbled into fairytale where everything is golden and magical.

And then I reached the main temple. That’s when my mind was blown completely. White stone carved with so many figures your head spins. Gods, animals, birds, mythical creatures, flowers and all this not just symbols, but a real carved story. Every column — a separate piece of art. You step inside, and you can’t take photos anymore, but maybe that’s for the best, because only then you start feeling the place deeper. The ceilings painted with patterns and scenes, woodenb arches with the finest carvings, columns almost alive . I just stood for a long time staring at the ceiling, as if I’d entered a painting museum ,but it wasn’t art for art’s sake, it was part of something bigger. And you knowq, you get this feeling that everything inside you slows down, your heart beats steadier and you feelcalm coming from somewhere.

Walking around the courtyard — that’s a pleasure of its own. Huge squares, in the center a lacy column with a lotus on top. The whole courtyard framed by buildings in the same style, and wherever you stand, your shot is a perfect picture. Then ponds with fountains: water flowing, drops sparkling in the sun, and behind them rise massive walls. Looking at it feels like being in a movie about an ancient civilization, only it’s all real and right here, before your eyes.

I went into the visitors building and even there my eyes were running everywhere . Everything wood, walls and ceilings decorated with carvings, mosaic patterns on the floor, each arch with its own figures. Even inside, everywhere those symbolic elephants, myth scenes and ornamenrts . Feels like you are in a palace. But it is not a museum, where everything’s behind glass and untouchable, it’s a living space where life is buzzing.. Families come, someone’s praying, someone’s sitting and talkingf, some kids are running around the hall (lol...), and it all feels very naturally.

And you know what’s most amazing? Even if you don’t know a thing about the local religion, the place still gets to you. It’s arranged in a way that you start respecting the culture, the labor, the whole approach to life. I caught myself in a state where I didn’t want to hurry anywhere. Just stand, look, soak in the beauty. I didn’t even want to hold my phone — everything around was stronger than any picture.

And the gardens around — that’s another storyt. Bushes trimmed perfectly, bright flowers, flowerbeds put together so the colors shimmer. Everything cared for down to the tiniest detail, you can see it’s done with love. I can imagine how it looks in the evening , when lights come on and everything looks glowing. A fairytale, and nothing less. They say in the evenings they even do a light and music show here, too bad I didn’t stay for that. But that’s definitely a reason to come back.

The strongest impression is left by the thought that all of this was made by hand. Really: every column, every figure, ornament, mosaic — all carved, assembled, put together manually. You stand there and think: how much work, patience, time was put into this. These aren’t just buildings, it’s like an encyclopedia of art and faith in one place. And even if you come ten times, every time you’ll find something new.

I also noticed that people here feel different somehow. They become softer and calmer. I saw one very old man sitting on the bench, looking at fountain and just smiling. Kids playing nearby, someone feeding birds.. Everything so harmonious that you get lightness inside, too. I caught myself on thought that I did not want to leave at all.Just sit, watch, listen to the water , birds singing, and that is it.

This place is not just beautiful, it actually changes you. You walk out and feel that inside it’s quieter, calmer . You don’t want to rush off somewhere, hurry, fuss anymore. You just want to be here and now. I left there with a smile, and that smile stayed for a long time. That’s the real miracle — not inthe gold, not in the carvings, not in the scale, but in the fact that all of this makes you stop and feel like a part of something bigger.
