OK then, buckle up. About a 6 weeks ago I decided that I needed to start trying to grow my steem power to increase my account value more than the increases noted through the increasing value of steem and steem power in general. So I studied up on how to delegate steem and gave that a try as it looked like you could earn between 30-40% annually which on top of expected general appreciation of steem looked very attractive. So I delegated my 600 steem power (sp) and began to earn 0.77 sp per day. On day 9 I received message from a concerned steemian informing me that one of my delegations was to a "troll" (my interpretation) and asking me to undelegate my sp to this particular individual. So I did some research and quickly came to the conclusion that said individual was indeed a troll and promptly undelegated my sp. Of course what ensued was a 1 week wait to regain my sp with no earnings. During this time I also looked at my other delegation and realized that the other individual that I had delegated too was also a troll, although a little bit more sophisticated in their trolling activities. (to be continued)
So I also undeleted this particular individual. Once my sp became active again I tried upvoting content that I liked and then upvoting my subsequent comments and conversations basically achieving a 50/50 split between myself and the author which subsequently netted ~ 25% pay back to me. These returns were minimal when compared to the amount of sp that I was previously getting per day through delegation. I then decided that I would work on authoring some blogs hoping to achieve greater earning by doing that. The problem that I ran into is that I don't have anything to blog about that someone would want to follow on a daily and/or regular basis. I actually thought people would find this posting rather interesting/informative but after receiving only 3 upvotes and 1 penny from other steemians I was somewhat disheartened. This was also compounded by the fact that as during this time period, as I explored the steemit website, looked at various blogs and how the ones that made significants amounts of money (say in the 100 - 300 dollar range on average), I realized that you were either posting really valuable content or you had "friends" who would upvote you with significant amounts of money even if all you did was post a pretty picture and write a short paragraph. This was also somewhat disheartening. So for the next few days I have decided to be my own "friend" or "whale" (although I am not much of a whale) and just upvote my own blogs as well as upvote folks who comment on my blogs just to see how that payout compares to the prior delegated payouts that I was initially receiving. At the moment I still have several days to go before I see an initial payout of my own blogging for comparison purposes. After that I will post some follow up comments regarding my finding and thoughts about things.
Why not?
It will be a rather lengthy answer, are you sure that you want to hear it?
Yes.
