Feasting on Turkish meals
During my last visit to Turkey, one thing I enjoyed the most was the different types of Turkish meals. Living in Oman it is not new for me. We have loads of Turkish restaurants in Oman and on and off I visit there. I like the meals because majority of their food are grilled foods which I find healthier then other meal options. Asian cuisine is my favorite as such but grilled foods I have more when I am dining out just because of the health related better options. And to be honest, while I enjoy all of these meals, there is nothing better then a Indian meal and that too a home cooked one.
When ever I am travelling after few days I am bound to get home sick and the major reason is the food. I want my Indian food, no matter how much ever I am enjoying other foods. So it was the same case while in Turkey also, after a week I was terribly missing my home food.
This is a typical Turkish meal, which is a Kebab and rice which is served with some small sides like mashed potatoes, veggies, and salads. The kebabs are juicy, they do not have much of spice and no oil also because they are grilled.
There are different types of grilled meat so it's not like you are eating the same thing, but then yes after a certain time it is almost the same taste for all grills. That's my son's meal, enjoys this food :-)
The bread and salad is always complimentary. Here in Oman also this is the tradition, so when we order we are mindful to not order in excess because there are compliments along with the main course. Bread I avoid but salad I do enjoy. When people from western countries visit Oman they get very amused with the amount of complimentary sides that they get because it's not the culture in western countries and every small thing is charged.
A lot of them prepare meals in earthen pots and then serve also in that. I like that flavor in the food. The rice is the coarse bulgur wheat, which is a healthier version of rice and look alike rice.
And some fun moments, it's holiday mood. Well I am all the time in holiday mood...haha
