Visting the Hadrian's Gate

in #travel2 months ago

The Hadrian Gate is found in the city of Antalya in Turkey. It is a memorial gate which was built in the name of the Roman emperor Hadrian. This gate is a famous place for tourist and the location is also very central. It is also called as the Three Gates because of it's structure, there are 3 entrances through it. In the olden times this gate was the main entrance to the old part of the city which is known as Kaleiçi. In the recent times also this place is famous because it has some of those old vibe restaurants and places to chill out, also if you want to buy some good traditional souvenirs then here you will find a lot of variety. It was built in 130 A.D. so one can only imagine how old it is, and we are witnessing history that old.

I always find it very fascinating to see and feel these places, When you touch it you feel like you are connecting with the past. It has witnessed so much in time and touched by so many over the generations, and now you are also becoming part of that history. Isn't that amazing.

A little more about the history of this place; the city of Antalya was previously known as Atteleia. In the year 1958 the excavation and restoration works were carried out of this place and after that it has got it's current appearance. The gate has a width of 18 meters and a height of 8 meters.

That's the gate between the 2 towers.

There are supports given for some of the weak pillars.

Looking at this structure one can only think everything was so big grand in those times and with so much finesse and fine architecture, that even after so many centuries we are in awe of it. It must be in so much glory when it must have been newly built. There is a lot of fine art in it.

After spending some time here and clicking loads os pictures we proceeded to the Kaleiçi market which was another delightful place to visit.
