Day tripping: Meow Wolf in Santa Fe, New Mexico

in #travel8 years ago

20180118_105517.jpgNext time an alpha hippie at a nude hot springs in Colorado tells you to go to an art show in Santa Fe, you might want to go. I'm glad I did. I went to Meow Wolf almost a week ago and it feels like a recent dream. It’s impossible to explain this art funhouse, which opened in 2016. 150 artists worked on it for over a year before it opened. Here’s my Samsung galaxy photo gallery of the exhibition...

These stalactites (stalacmites?) play music when you touch them

This is where you go in, into an actual house

this was my favorite of the 70+ rooms: a tiny vintage RV with pepper lights and a radio playing

Musicians play on a stage here. Meow Wolf explores portals: in this room there is an old school ice machine with a door, you step through the door and are in a trippy little mirrored room with sounds to try and lights. Windowpane, anyone?

there are all these treehouses and levels. Couches in the bottom of some of the trees.

another theme in the narrative is alien beings and landscapes

you go through these rooms with special black light enhancing glasses on

this got blurred unfortunately. It's an alley in a city. Did I mention that this giant interactive K hole is housed inside a former bowling alley? I heard the guy who created Game of Thrones bankrolled Meow Wolf.

This is the robot that stands outside and says hello, goodbye. It was hard to leave.

This is amazing! Love the creativity of the artists, and the mastermind behind it, whoever it is. Would love to visit this place someday!

Looks like a trip! Great when artists take over space and bring you into a new world like that!

I think my favourite is the big blue monster lol!
