Marina [Forest and Natural Scenic Spot] — A Place where Every Tree Tells a Story

in Traveling Steemlast month (edited)

Have you ever been to a place where you hear the roots of trees shouting to grow vertically upwards rather than horizontally, the leaves rustling because they are tired of staying up high, the footsteps of an army of ants and the chaotic movement of some trees? You'll feel a shiver on your spine if you visit this place alone.

Which place? Marina Forest and Nature Park. The name alone is evidence because we have Marine, and most people will think it's the Marine they know of. Marine evil spirits in the water or forest, but it's far from this marine. I'll explain this in the sections below.

Location Overview

The location of this place is what I'll term nature hidden in gold. Why? Because this marina is located in the most expensive hotel in my city, no poor man can go there because of the cover placed in front. When the poor hear that you'll have to pass through an expensive hotel to get to the nature park, they'll rather stay back than follow you, as they'll reason about their appearance and dressing. How will those politicians see them?

If it were in an open area that's not hidden or bounded in a place for financial gurus, they would have had the opportunity to experience nature's breath.

It is located in the heart of an expensive hotel, Ibom Icon, and has just one entrance, which is embedded before the hotel itself. It is easily accessible, as there's a signboard that shows the entrance to the forest. You don't need to ask around, as the visibility is just there. This is a separate part of the hotel even though it is found in its exterior.

It's just that the nature park isn't as popular, as the name of the hotel is placed at the forefront. So most people don't even know there's a nature park in Uyo. Special geographical features in this place includes;

  • valleys

  • Landforms and hills

  • Agricultural land

  • Water bodies like a fountain and a pond, so to speak

  • Forest and grasslands

History or Background

There are no stories linked to the place, as it's not that popular a place. People are aware of the hotel close to it and the beach, tied after its name. It's only when they get there that they know such a place exists. It's a government property; that's why you can't even see the end of the vegetation.

It wasn't declared a national reserve because it's government-owned but managed by a private entity, and that private entity just decided to make a little tourist attraction site for tourists who come to the hotel or who come to appreciate nature and inhale its breath.

No individual can own such a large piece of land and the good thing about this land is that it has ancient stories and trees tied to the place. One of the oldest trees can be found here if a thorough tour is made. Every tree has a name and tells a story. This forest has existed for thousands of years, as no one planted the trees therein. It was managed and recreated as a natural park in the year 2008.

Scenery and Landscape

Leave serenity for this place. The fresh air that comes from the trees and grasses in this nature park is good for healing both the mind and the body. **It has a large landscape that you can barely tell where it ends. You'll keep on touring and walking down. The more you go, the broader the place. It does have an end, but you can't tell the end because of the large vegetation and forestry.

pictures of its large vegetation

I captured a few landscapes of the place, having many angles that can't be deciphered with a mobile phone except when marked out by a drone. Let's talk about some of its landscapes.

MountainsIt does have a good landscape for mountainous regions, though this place can't be accessible because of the wild forest life before it.

Waterfalls: The nature park has three waterfalls, though I could not get the location of these waterfalls, as I was with no tour guide who had the mapped vegetation of the place. The last time I visited this place, I was fortunate to see one of its waterfalls, but on returning, I couldn't remember its location.

Forests: The place has a cultivated, educated, thick forest that is cared for. Any forest that isn't taken care of and isn't educated can cause you lasting harm. Why? Because it would be like, 'Your aim is to use my trees for fuel wood and the animals living in my habitat as meat; you'll get your own portion of food if you come unarmed.' 😁 It has a wild forest with bees, spiders that kill, ants and creeping insects that sting and heal at the same time. The pictures below show the dense part of the forest.

Grasslands: It has a large grassland that's as green as the colour itself. Sometimes I wonder how they prevent wilting of grasses here because even in summer, the grasses are evergreen. This is the grassland that gives life and energy to every living thing that spends time here. It produces a special type of air that can improve one's mental condition. With just 2 hours of meditation, your memory will be improved. Anxieties and stress would be foregone. The grassland is placed on hire for those who want to have a large gathering or an occasion here. I can remember one popular celebrity in my country who did his marriage proposal here, on the fields.

Golf court is present in various angles of its grassland, and it's nicely shaped and trimmed to fit it. Most of these courts are located deep down in the park. There are flags that guide anyone playing this game. These flags serve as a map to the main entrance so you won't miss your way or get lost.

It has a body of water to harbour frogs and some herons. The pictures below show the best photo sites in this place. Everywhere is good for photography, but you'll be attracted to these places if you want to do a photoshoot or pre-wedding shoot.

Wildlife and Flora

Wildlife in this place is dominated by the scary moving trees at night, the insects and the wild flowers. In terms of animals, definitely we get to see different types of snakes on trees or covered by leaves in the forest. Since I wasn't going with a tour guide, I couldn't extend to the deepest part of the forest where animals like leopards and tigers are seen and caged. Though they don't harm, they are caged to prevent situations where they get to scare tourists.

I couldn't reach this part of the park. If I went with a tour guide, definitely, it would have captured some wild animals in this park. I didn't know the location of these prominent spots. I couldn't capture birds and animals because they can't be stagnant when they perceive predators like me. I was fortunate to zoom in on a squirrel with my mobile device. In terms of flowers, the park is dominated with beautiful flowers, and its forest is dominated with wildflowers that can kill by just inhaling.

These are a few local plants and trees seen in this place. I could get the names of some as a I met a your guide coincidentally and he was using a public address system to aid his tourists.

Tell the Truth Tree: He said that back in the days, people are taken to this tree to determine who is lying and who is telling the truth. It is encircled by a couple of small trees while a large scary, structured tree is in its middle. You'll have to touch the tree. If the tree doesn't shake wildly, you're not lying. But if it does, you're lying and the roots will definitely give you punishment for doing so.

Almond Tree: It's noted for its extended roots that serves as seats for tired people. I've never seen such a tree with roots like those of tree branches. The tour guide said that it was created in such a way to tell you that no matter what you face in life, there are solutions to your problems.

Activities Available

Activities carried out here are just the golf play, camping and sightseeing by tourists. Camping is done as well though the camp coordinator will have to pay for the park before use. Tourism is done full time. When I was touring the forest and grasslands, I met a group of tourists with a tour guide going down the slope and extending their tour to the thick forests. I'd love to have a camping experience so as to spend more time studying the trees, its roots, the insects and also appreciate the person who created all these.

Facilities and Amenities

Someone once asked me if I wasn't scared of touring in that forest. What if someone blocked me with a gun or probably strike me with a knife? I told him that the trees have eyes. There's a group of people called boyscout and these people are meant to protect harm of any sort which may threaten tourists touring the forest. They have houses in the forest where they are fed and provided with social basic amenities to keep them in watch for threats to tourists in the forest......

1001114934.jpg
Security's residence

These facilities Includes toilets and bathrooms for their use. They also have a cafeteria which I wasn't allowed to enter. I could only visit their toilets and bathrooms which no one was there to supervise.

Rest area

They have their own toilets and bathrooms and those for tourists who may want to use the restrooms. Picnic spots is shown in the picture below. Just see how green the place is as it's on their grassland. They have various spots for picnic though.

Rest areasTourists need a place where they'll have to rest if they are tired of walking down the slopes and valleys. These rest areas are situated in various points, both in the forest and grasslands 1001115147.jpg Rest area for tourists
Social amenitiesThey have constant power and water supply in this park especially the forest areas. There's good internet connection even though it's quite absurd to have a strong internet in the forest. 1001114940.jpg GP tanks for water

We also have park seats where you get to sit and view the skies, hear the birds sing, feel the extra energetic breeze from rustling trees and also view the blue sky.

Best Time to Visit

The best time to visit is during rainy season and summer where you get to experience the natural breath that comes from the grasslands and sun during summer. Sunrise/sunset times for photographers are seen. Every view is just so beautiful. During rainy days or raining season, tourists receive a different energy, one that can heal and improve one's mental health. The disadvantage is that you won't get to see the beauty of the sun on green leaves.

Flowers and fruits tend to bloom during rainy days. You'll also get to see how fresh these leaves and flowers are.

Tickets and Entry Rules

There are no fees attached to entry. Tourism is free but you'll need to pay 3k if you need a tourist guide. This 3k is perfect head. Some safety guidelines while using the park includes;

  • **Don't stand on the edge of a valley as it may break

  • Don't enter a bush that's covered with excess leaves that your legs can't be found. Snakes may be hiding in those leaves

  • Don't shake any tree you see as insects may fall off and damage you

  • Ensure you watch your steps to avoid entering holes that would swallow you.

Personal Experience

I visited this place yesterday to get new pictures as I've already visited the place and made use of its pictures. I visited this place during rainy season and had the best experience of inhaling nature's breath and air. I also had a scary experience in the forest while walking alone as my mind travelled far. The videos explains it best. You can feel what I felt. Everything about that place is just cold.

If you're suffering from daily fatigue, anxiety, stress and mental illness, dedicate one week of your time and get healing from this park, the grasslands to be specific.

I'm afraid already. So if I mistaken my step I may fall and not be seen Jesus it's scaring. But the place is so beautiful maybe you will hold my hands when we visit .

No problem ma. It was the forest that really scared me as I was touring alone. We'll do so on Monday. 😁
