Pikan Nigerian Enterprise: Store 2 — Block 1
Still on the week of checking out business places on Lord Ekong Avenue, this is the second store that operates in such a place and do you know what? They gain patronage with no one to compete with concerning drinks. And it's not surprising to know that in the village or local community, men drink a lot than men who drink in town. Will you place a bet? 😁😁
Let's not go into that sha. This store is a 5 minutes trek from Store 1, though store 2 is on an accessible road and can be seen by passers-by. The difference between this local store 2 and store 1 is that store 1 doesn't pay rent while the owner of store 2 pays rent. Store 1 has no business name while store 2 has. Both of them are in the local community and have sufficient customers as there are no competitors to struggle customers with.
Identification |
---|
This place is identified by a business name called Pikan Nigerian Enterprise. It's more professional by this name even though it's in the local community. It has a small flex by the roadside as an advertisement to passers-by and road users that drinks are sold in this place, both wholesale and retail.
Location |
---|
This place is located at Lord Ekong Avenue, Ifa Ikot Abia Rd, Oron Rd, Uyo. It's in the local community of ifa Atai, Uyo Metropolis. You can use Pan African Comprehensive Secondary School Road to enter this street, or you can use the Ifa Atai big junction to access this road. Either way can be used to get to this street.
Management |
---|
Pikan Nigerian Enterprise is owned and managed my a family whose initials brought about the name of the enterprise — A family of 5. All of them manage this shop simultaneously. How? All the children are in school while the parents are working. On week days, the mother manages the shop while on weekends, the children manages the shop.
There's division of labour in management. The two sons run the logistics and shipment of drinks to the store. They also run offloading and delivery services. The daughter who happens to be the only female child runs account. They are of age though as no one is below 16.
The parents does the survey and purchase from wholesalers and also run the funding aspect for all these activities to be laid down. Checks and balances are done on a weekly basis to keep track of expenses and income.
Exterior |
---|
As a rented shop, it has other shops that are connected to it. It has a varenda for chairs placement though it's small and not accommodating. **The shop is built close to a gutter. So you have to crossover the gutter to enter the shop as they have no walkway across the gutter. For the elderly and infirmed, they'll have to use the main entrance which is the entrance of the shop owner's house to access the shop.

Exterior of the shop with a chair for visitors
The walls are painted with blue colour and across the gutter is their flex supported with woods. The shop has a door made of iron which has two sides. You can close one and open another simultaneously. This flex or banner gives customers a glimpse of what they sell original offer.
Crates of minerals are also kept in front of the shop to aid visual advertisement as most people can't read on flex or may not understand what's on the flex. Funny right? There's a chair at the entrance of the shop for customers to sit.
Interior |
---|
The interior of this place showcases an open space where crates of minerals and other valuables are kept. The shop doesn't have prominent facilities, but have notable sections which I'll state below. The interior walls are also painted with blue colour. There are ceilings which covers the interior roofing top of the shop. There are shelves but not functional. Goods are stacked on the floor as that's how other stores do theirs.
At the entrance of the shop is a transparent show glass where snacks and other basic necessities are kept aside from drinks. These snacks include biscuits in small and big packs.. Wines are kept in the show glass as well as other medicinal drinks that are of high demand in that area.
Drinks
There's a section for a freezer to contain drinks as most customers may be in need of cold or chilled drinks. The freezer helps serve this purpose and it's interesting to know that they purchase ice blocks to cold their freezer in the absence of constant light in the area.
The section for drinks is directly behind the show glass. Drinks of different types are sold here in bulk and in retail. Drinks such as;
- Heineken
- Bottled and canned malt
- Bottled water
- Champion
- 33 and Star beer
- Soft drinks like mirinda, fearless, etc.
Category | Wholesale prices | Retail prices | Steems |
---|---|---|---|
Heineken bottle | 8000 naira | 1200 naira | 54 - 8.1 steems |
Champion | 1200 | 9500 | 54 - 64 steems |
All these are stacked. While we have most of them in crates, others are in cartons._
Quality of Service and Products |
---|
Their drinks are often sold out and they keep regular checks. Even though the drinks are on the floor, the quality doesn't change. They render quick services to their customers and offer them seats when they notice someone who is tired or elderly. Those boys would never allow you carry any drinks purchased in crates or cartons by yourself. They'll assist you with it to your truck.
Rates, discounts and affordability |
---|
They do discounts on December where there's about 30% off on drinks bought. If a crate of beer is 10,000, there'll sell it 7000 naira. Just imagine. On a normal, the price of Champion is very expensive in my area but they do sell their a thousand naira because they don't want to gain excessively and their aim isn't to drive customers away.
My Experience |
---|
I've actually done shopping here but on retails level. I came to purchase chilled fearless for the weather. They always deliver at all times. I recommend this place to the local community as they accept all forms of payments which includes;
- cash payments
- transfer
- card payment
- loan/borrowing
- installment payment.
Their POS machine for accepting transfers
