My long bus trip experience.

When using the bus, the experience is usually full of its share of adventure, fatigue, and memorable incidents and this was no different when I was traveling between Ebonyi Abakaliki and Abuja. It was an extremely lengthy ride that made me patient yet provided me with the experience to keep.

I had a very early start of the day. I got up at approximately 5: 00 am and I knew I had already booked my ticket online at 7: 30 am. That was sufficient to have time to prepare. I took my bath, dressed up, and took a light meal after which I checked my bag in order to be sure that I had everything I needed in it. At 6.35 am, I was prepared to drive out of the house. Still cool and still, the air was, and little by little people were emerging on the streets making ready their day.

The first thing I did when I arrived at the park was the confirmation of my booking at the counter. There was a lot of commotion in the park with people dragging their boxes, sellers shouting their products and people peering about to find their buses. Because it was not yet time, I sat down with other people who were waiting. Just at 7:20 am, the attendants announced us to take boarding and I settled in the bus. At 7:30 am, some few minutes later, the bus took off.

It was a start of those usual elements of excitement and a little anxiety. I carried my snacks and an energy drink, yet in the process, I still purchased extra ones in roadside vendors. The bus passed through towns and villages and I got an opportunity to appreciate the landscape that included farmlands, road side markets and people going about with their daily lives.

We had also had two great pauses to stop and have a bite to eat. All the stops were busy, people hurried to have food and beverages, and some made quick calls to their family members. I took those breaks to have a little rest and absorb the atmosphere.

Hours spent there, and I started getting tired, yet I tried to entertain myself by talking to a guy who was also on the bus and listening to music. The journey was tedious but each kilometer brought us nearer to Abuja.

At last we reached where we were going after what seemed to be a journey that was never ending. As I got off the bus I was not only glad, but thankful to make a safe trip. It was exhausting but the experience made me remember that a long bus ride is not only about the place you are going but also the details, the people you get to meet and the little adventures you come across.
