A magnificent residence near Cremona - Italy
One of the things that fascinates me most about my hometown are definitely the villas and castles, places that tell a story, like Villa Castello Manfredi, located in Cicognolo in the province of Cremona. It's undoubtedly one of the most beautiful residences in all of Lombardy, especially thanks to its neo-Gothic architectural style, which makes it truly captivating.
I was very hesitant to share this place, since unfortunately, being a private residence, it can't be visited and is therefore not open to the public. However, if you happen to be in the area, it's definitely worth admiring this marvel, even just from the outside.
It was built between 1830 and 1840 by Marquis Manfredi. Those who follow my YouTube channel will surely have noticed other similar places, precisely because the fashion of the time led these very wealthy people to commission architects to build these Neo-Gothic residences.
Marquis Manfredi, of Spanish origin, commissioned the architect Luigi Voghera, who was very famous at the time, to build this residence on the ruins of a medieval castle that already stood in the area. This architect was very skilled in preserving the quadrilateral layout and moat of the old castle, as you can also see from the photos.
Indeed, the structure is typical of Lombard castles, with corner arches and a crenellated central tower. Looking at these photos, we can say with certainty that it's somewhat reminiscent of the Sforza Castle in Milan. Although it's beautiful, you can stroll through the large park surrounding this evocative villa, and you have to imagine that the architect's work wasn't just a restoration, but a true reconstruction of this castle, which was in terrible condition.
As you can see, the castle is in excellent condition, and it's practically the most important attraction in the area, which is practically free because you can admire it from the outside. Unfortunately, as I mentioned, the interior can't be visited because it's a private residence, although it is occasionally possible, perhaps during events. I hope you found the post interesting. See you next time, and I wish you all a happy Sunday!
