The village in Tuscany that nobody knows!!
When I opened my YouTube channel, hotspot Italy, my goal has always been to discourage overtourism, there are many beautiful and little-known places in Italy, but unfortunately most tourists and even most Italians always go to the same places.
That's why today, I want to introduce you to a village that you certainly don't know and is located in beautiful Tuscany, a land of important cities such as Florence and very important villages, but in my opinion you should also know Monticello Amiata, a small village in the province of Grosseto that is located at an altitude of about 700 meters above sea level at the foot of the famous Monte Amiata.
You will ask yourself what importance it has to know such a small place, in reality it is these small villages that have remained authentic, where you can touch the culture of this place with your own hands. In fact, here there is a house museum that reproduces the typical peasant home of the 1800s but there are also several nature trails that cross the wonderful chestnut woods that are right here nearby.
The origins of Monticello Amiata date back to the Lombard era even if the village was destroyed by numerous fires, but in my opinion the most interesting thing is that it has the typical structure of the medieval village with the city walls and you can access the village through two main doors, the Grosseto door, and the Senese door and let's say that this architectural aspect has integrated well with the more modern houses that were built later, but let's say that in Italy it is not always easy to find these city walls still intact.
To reach Monticello Amiata, you have to go about 50 km from Grosseto and you enter this Ombrone valley which is also a nature reserve, in fact in addition to being in contact with an architectural beauty, this area of Tuscany, more rural more naturalistic In fact we are right in the center of the Maremma, there is a greater respect for nature.
There are not many inhabitants, who populate this village, in fact According to the last census carried out about 10 years ago the inhabitants are 400 but they are continuously decreasing, also probably because of the difficulty in reaching this place.
In conclusion However we can say that Monticello Amiata in addition to being a beautiful historical and natural village of great charm still has this strong identity linked to the territory and the peasant tradition that has always been very important in these places.
See you in my next post I wish you a good start to the week to everyone
