COME WITH ME TO THE DURBAR FESTIVAL IN ILORIN

In 2023, I saw a post online about the DURBAR FESTIVAL in Ilorin. That was my first time hearing about the DURBAR FESTIVALS which happens in a lot of parts in Nigeria.

So, I planned on going for the one at Ilorin, Kwara State in 2024 but I couldn't because I didn't have funds. I started saving towards this year.

In January, I relocated to Uyo, Akwa Ibom State. It could have been better from Edo State but still, I didn't give up. I told myself that I must witness the festival.

I started saving up some money around January. I made enquiries and I started planning towards the trip.

The journey from Uyo to Kwara State is two days. You'll take a bus to Abai State, from Aba, Abai State to Anambra State, from Onitsha, Anambra State to Edo State, from Auchi, Edo State to Kogi State, from Lokoja, Kogi State to Ilorin.

This is how far it is from Uyo. That's why I said it could have been better if I was still residing in Edo State. It was my first time in Ilorin and trust me, I fell in love with it from the start.

I was able to get a lodge at 10,000 naira per night. The food was okay despite the fact that it was a school area.

My lodge was at TANKE, very close to the University of Ilorin. From Tanke to General where the event was held cost 500 naira only.

A day before the event, I decided to go find the place so that I don't get confused the next day. I asked people around and they told me the location of the place ADEWOLE BASE BALL COURT, GENERAL.

I was able to locate the place and the next day (the d-day), I had no difficulties getting there.

The DURBAR FESTIVAL is a celebration that happens two days after the big Sallah called Id el Kabir.

The celebration of this year was on Sunday, 8th June since Id el Kabir was on the 6th. The DURBAR FESTIVAL is a place where you'll see a lot of cultural displays including horse riding. The event is graced with a lot of government officials like the governor and minister and the Emir is also in attendance. People from far and near do attend too.

I was given food at the event too. I had a great time in Ilorin and I am looking forward to attending the DURBAR FESTIVAL in other states.
