Before Sunset

Rangamati lake in the Rangamati division is one of the best natural scenic tourist attractions in Bangladesh. This hilly region of Chittagong is crowded with tourists in all seasons and why wouldn't it be? After all, this one place gives you to enjoy lakes, rivers, hills and waterfalls. It's a unique place to enjoy the immense beauty of the surrounding hills while taking a boat ride on the blue waters of the lake.

It's not a specific area, it is an entire division located within the hilly region of Chittagong. If you are visiting here for the first time, it would be best if you join a Facebook event or tour group because you might need a guide to fully enjoy the beautiful spots throughout the area. I have shared the area pin location at the end of the post.

Various bus services are available from the main city to reach Rangamati town. Since this is a region, there is no entry fee or permission required for visiting. Although there isn't a specific website for the area, there is a direct website to learn about the development and people of this region.

So, let's discuss the immense beauty of Rangamati. Since there are many small and large lakes here, with numerous hills and islands in between, you will need to travel by boat on the lakes to reach the hills and their villages. The tour group I went with had arranged everything beforehand. We arrived there in the morning and first boarded a boat.

Boat fares vary depending on the quality of the boats. There are some premium quality boats with higher fares and more facilities. These boats will take you to the islands one by one. On this tour, I visited about 7 different islands. One of these islands has an indigenous village where small ethnic groups reside.

Boats can be rented for the whole day, from 9 am to 4 pm, on a contract basis. Our entire tour group started our journey on the boat in the morning. When I went on this tour, there was still a cold in the air and enjoying the hilly lake area at this time has a unique experience.

The lake water was absolutely clear and blue. I don't remember the last time I saw such clear lake water. Sitting in the boat, the surrounding lake environment looked extraordinarily beautiful.

You can touch the water with your hands if you want, but you have to be careful because the boats shake a lot while moving. I took many videos that day. I will definitely share them with you.

You have to travel by boat from one island to another. The environment and beauty of each island are unique. People called indigenous people live on the hills of some islands.

There is no electricity and no good farmland there, but these indigenous people have been living there for ages. Most of their local income comes from tourists. Even though digital facilities are absent, living in such a beautiful natural environment is a great privilege.

Our tour guide gave us 30-40 minutes to explore each island thoroughly. This much time is enough to properly visit one island. In this way, we had the opportunity to visit 7 islands and the small villages on them from morning till afternoon. Most of the time was spent on the boat. It took quite a while to ride the boat from one island to another.

Around noon, the sun was shining brightly. It was a sight to behold at that time. The sun's rays were shimmering a lot on the water. I tried to capture this scene on video.

I don't know how much of it is visible in the video, but when I actually saw it from the boat, my eyes were filled with this beauty. If you are lucky, you might also get to enjoy such a scene on your trip to Rangamati.

A scene of sunlight reflection.

Finally, after visiting all the important islands and indigenous villages by afternoon, I got off the boat with everyone, and my enjoyment of the beauty of Rangamati ended here. Among the natural scenic places I have seen, Rangamati will remain one of the top spots.

If you like to see lakes, hills, and waterfalls, then this place might be the most suitable for you. A day trip with family and friends would be perfect here. There are no accommodations on the islands, but you can stay in hotels in the city side if you wish.

The package fee for the tour group I went with was 1200 Bdt/65 STEEM which included my morning and afternoon snacks, lunch, boat fare, and all entry fees. They organize tours to Rangamati with tourists once a month. I am sharing the link to their next event; you can visit with them at a low cost if you want.
