'My Travel To Hatirjheel Lake'
Hatirjheel Lake is one of the most remarkable places in Dhaka. Although calling it a “tourist spot” isn’t quite accurate, since the lake was originally designed for purposes like rainwater conservation, preventing waterlogging and flooding, improving the sewage drainage system, and reducing traffic congestion in the capital.

Whatever its purpose may be, the lake area felt truly beautiful to me. Still, for me, it’s more of a recreational place, where I can enjoy a ride on a water taxi and conveniently travel from one spot to another while avoiding traffic jams.

An amazing city. The view of the lake and the sky was awesome |
My first visit to Hatirjheel Lake was back in 2022. I had gone to Badda to meet one of my school friends. He told me that he would take me on a boat ride that day. Honestly, I thought he was joking, because I had no idea that Hatirjheel Lake was so close to Badda, and that you could actually travel to your destination not only by road but also by waterway.

The view of the lake from the Police Plaza Jetty |
From Badda, we walked to the Police Plaza Jetty, where you need to buy tickets at the counter before taking a water taxi through the lake to different destinations. The moment I reached the jetty, the beauty of the lake truly amazed me. For moving around smoothly while skipping Dhaka’s heavy traffic, there is really no alternative to this lake.

This lake looks amazing in the night lights |
From the Police Plaza Jetty, water taxis are available every few minutes to different parts of the city. The fare was quite cheap. Though I don’t remember the exact amount, I can confidently say it was very affordable. As soon as our journey on the water taxi began, I couldn’t resist taking out my phone and capturing the stunning views of the lake.

The green lights on the lakeside looked amazing from a distance |

The water taxi looked beautiful while traveling on the lake |
The yellow water boats on the lake looked almost like glowing lanterns. These boats are decorated with beautiful lights, and when they move across the water, the view from a distance is simply stunning. The only thing that bothered me during the journey was the unpleasant smell of the polluted lake water. But apart from that, riding these boats in the heart of the capital truly felt like a dream.

The water taxi seemed like a home |
At night, the sight of the city’s tall, glittering buildings from the lake left me mesmerized. Altogether, it was an amazing experience. I was both surprised and delighted to find such an adventure right here in Dhaka, a city otherwise known for its endless traffic jams.

Finally, I would like to remind everyone to be cautious while taking a water boat ride on this lake. Always try to board boats that have safety tubes or life jackets available. And for those traveling with family, please keep a close eye on the children.

I recommend everyone to take a boat ride on this lake at least once. If you want to escape traffic jams and at the same time enjoy the beauty of the city, a trip to Hatirjheel Lake can be the perfect option. So, don’t miss the chance to experience this boat adventure at least once in your life.
I am inviting @lirvic, @rauja apu, & @vivigibelis to take part in the contest.
