Make It Beautiful
“If there ain’t no beauty you gotta make some beauty…”
The Trinity told Us that this would happen. When I was running around in the subway concourses of downtown Philadelphia, I gained a respect for the underground and the folks who could navigate their way around. During cold Philly winters the homeless would set up shelters in the subway. It got funky. Nonetheless I figured if (when) times got really desperate they’d be most likely to survive.
If you can look at this economic hierarchy like a video game, the “homeless” are near the bottom. This is where the system is taking the middle class. The experiment didn’t work. You weren’t a strong enough buffer, now Stan and Sam Suburbanite can join the refuse in the subways. A bit drastic, but real life for some people. Blame anyone you want, but you’re still the main ingredient in your own drama.
The less beauty we have, the more beauty you find. We made our own joy in the hood with sticks and roller skates and shit that people threw out. The wave is coming for me too. I don’t have that far to fall. But it's probably further than I expect. I may see a few upper middies on the way down.
