I agree with legalization and that it will have an effect on the power of the cartels; however, the cartels have diversified. Legalizing drugs will weaken them not destroy them. Other "trade goods" the cartels trade in are human trafficking, black market oil, and counterfeit goods.

I agree, which is why I said "marginalize". but I have a feeling the money made off illegal drugs is gargantuan by comparison. for example, just look at the rise of Pablo Escobar:

As a young man, he told friends and family that he wanted to become president of Colombia. Yet as he saw it, his path to wealth and legitimacy lay in crime. He got his start as a petty street thief, stealing cars before moving into the smuggling business. Escobar’s early prominence came during the “Marlboro Wars,” in which he played a high-profile role in the control of Colombia’s smuggled cigarette market. This episode proved to be a valuable training ground for the future narcotics kingpin.

Once he discovered "la cocaína", the cash piles soared into the $$$BILLIONS. And that was 30 years ago, when a $$$BILLION was still worth a few bucks! lol

I started watching Narcos on Netflix. The first two were pretty good, but I put it aside and haven't gone back.

The do-gooders are't going to acknowledge the consequences of their policy in the rise of the cartels, and the rent-seekers aren't going to break their own rice bowls.

We just have to keep up a steady drumbeat of the Drug War doesn't work and makes things more dangerous

It is sad that the drumbeat of The Drug War is unconstitutional doesn't resonate

I binge-watched the whole Narcos series a while back, found the whole thing rather fascinating, especially how easily he could always justify his actions and portray himself as the victim, with absolutely no regard of the consequences. Hey, sounds just like today's neo-liberal zombie lunatics + Sharia LaBarf (he seems to have achieved a class all of his own)... lol

a primary characteristic of narcissists and sociopaths, who for some strange reason end up in leadership positions ;> (g*d, now I have the urge to see if there is any evolutionary study of narcissism and ASD...which is why I never catch up on any reading)

Did you see the guy that trolled labeef's webcam with MAGA in foreign languages? hilarious
