New (actually finished) ST game : Hero Fantasy:The Kings Sword (Atari (mega)st(e)

in #tyrnannoght11 hours ago

Courtesy of Monos51 on itch.io , Kings Sword is what they would call a "rogue-like" these days i guess

i think theres five types of games left , sold in three stores other that itch and gog, the rest all sells steam keys , and all five are either rogue-like, rogue-lite or souls-like ... metroidvania seems dwindling and even pacman has deck building elements now in most cases i bet (can never have enoug pac-man clones, right? its like gameboy spinoffs ... or Tetris ... )

Written in devpac seems a bit overkill for a game like this but far be it from us to criticize another bedroom coders weapon of choice, on the ST we are in the early learning phase as we never got to back when we had one in the 90s, so motorola assembler is for later (assuming we dont go dead or demented before that)

kinda hoping the pictures arent A.I. de-makes ...

saberman view

and something we wrote on the dLog :

05:38:30: : Wow, kings swordW is written with Devpac ? that seems like overkill for a game like that ...

weapon of choice ofcourse, gouts et couleurs ...

Since the boy never programmed the STf/e back when he had them because there wasnt much software here and about null manuals, obviously no internet back then in the booneez ...

Only got to some tryouts using compiled GFA with libraries like sunnyboys , mage and spriteworks , so far i think a combo of spriteworks and sunnyboy (Fantasie ?? im not sure about the handle - i remember the guy b/C he answered to a years old post in about an hour lol) works fine for me and also for the game i wanna do

On the jag - we never intended to do a jag-game until we found jagstudio, now that machine has been haunting us. The way of programming using the OP and the lists and CLUTS is not something i really seen before, even using jagstudio it still forces you to actually think, and thinking is not something we have done much of in this lifetime ... the rule of thumb is "if you have to TRY its not gonna end well ..."

You'll end up with some skeevy product based on a normalized ruleset if you have to TRY ... not a work that has a part of your self and soul in it

For the C64 so far and by now we go and swear by a mix of TRSE and bare ACME though i bet if we were 40 years into it like some demogroups we would stick to bare ACME as we would have more personal libs than TRSE provides by now

... SO SO ... BUT ITS ALWAYS GOOD TO SEE NEW STUFF for the ST, the c64 gets its fair share, lots of sunday-afternoon and gamejam crud but that just means its alive and kicking, but you get really nice stuff , the last ones probably musketeer and wolfling extend, which you wouldnt possibly see in the 80s ... (the machine broke ... so the 90s were ST ..)

Its probably heresy to have both a c64 and an Atari ST while not mentioning amigas ever ... BUT TRIBALISM IS FOR MUNDANES ...

we are alone ... always have been, always will be, even in the middle of a crowd

there are no roadmaps or deadlines ... we just program b/c we like it and have done it since the kid hello world on the c64

Living in belgium in my personal situation, its not like i can put up games on itch and ask money for it without paying the state first and i doubt it makes enough to warrant the cost

You're free to find me a few dozen belgian indies if you like ... or actually JUST ONE STUDIO OTHER THAN LARIAN making actual money with a real M originating here, HELL, find me a belgian billionnaire you know by name without going to google (maybe even if you do) .. or a world-renowned scientist ....

A megacorporation that has worldwide clout ?

Its not like all belgians are idiots ... so it must be something cultural and "matters of the state"

ANYWAY

atm we are haunted by the jag more or less but we can only test it on the mister core since a real one costs 10 times what it did 3 years ago, should have bought 10 or 20 back then and sold them, i could buy a new pc today , maybe even a sharp or a falcon if you could even find those anymore (theyre like NOT on ebay anymore)

Tho i think once we get the first five levels of the shmup prototyped we'll have almost all game mechanics so then we probably switch up between the others again, it doesnt really matter if the games get finished but it would be nice if they were before we drop dead or go demented

and we got a neo6502 and agonlight2 thats begging to be programmed too (face it, at that price, for a lightweight afternoon tea coder , how could you NOT get one of those?)

...hmmmm

but they told the kid DAS IS NIET WEIRKEN, computers will never get you anywhere ... TOO BAD ...

maybe next life

i only bought a jag because Atari paid EDGE magazine plenty to write about it and i was reading EDGE during breaks working tupperware nightshifts ... (thats what people without skills and talent do ...)

euhmmmm .... i bet it makes little difference either way here at the end of the sumerian era

Our major dream was to move out of this shithole, start up something in a country that CAN, and make enough to take a trip to space just once ...

not "buying a house" but imo not unachievable , and even if we ended halfway life would certainly be better than this

DOZO ... the ST game wont be for this year lol, the C64 game wont be for this year but seeing as the jag gets "easy to program" with jagstudio maybe the shmup for '26 ... not that we'll advertise it and since we dont have marketing GF to do a kickstarter theres no reason to "work" faster ..

THUS LET IT BE SPOKEN

JoG '25, still not a doompatrol metafor
Syntax Error

Well yea, it looks like we wont get to the moon with Steemit, but Sun already has ... too bad
