I often think about the ratio of people I'm following Vs the people who are following me and if I'm doing the right thing. My first week here I followed a lot of people at first without really checking their content much just because they commented on or upvoted my post.

While it's a nice gesture, as you said it can result in information overload as far as a persons feed is concerned. I should probably make a realistic assessment of the people I'm following (and ones who I should follow but I haven't yet for whatever reason) and take some sort of action.
