It's simple: thoughtcrime

It is because Elon Musk is lying about everything and he fooled people for years and that's why people are pissed off. Or do you really believe that he is working 120 hours per week managing half a dozen multi-billion dollar companies while being the best gamer in the world at multiple games and on top of that he is a great father to his 15 kids? For the record, there are 168 hours in a week. If you sleep 6 hours per day that leaves you with 126 hours for everything else. In other words, you have to eat, sleep and shit behind your keyboard while having people to bring you food and change your adult diapers to make that work. You have no time for showers, no time to change clothes, no time to stretch your legs. Nothing but work sleep and food in and out. Even your meals need to be 20 minutes long or you will lose your schedule. That is what Elon Musk is trying to convince people that he is doing.

On top of that an estimate of putting a small village on mars is 1000 to 2400 Trillion USD. For reference, all the wealth on planet Earth is estimated to be 450 Trillion USD. You need several earths to be liquidated to put a colony on Mars. Even putting 10 people on Mars can cost as much as 1,5 Trillion dollars. With about 500 billion on the lower end. That can be nearly 4 times Elon Musk's net worth and 6 times the Market cap of SpaceX. So what he is attempting to do is make the US government pay for it so that he can take the credit for the lies he has been telling people for well over a decade now.
