Refreshing & Delicious Homemade Plum Juice for Hot Summer Day!
Good afternoon from Sunny Da Nang everyone!
It’s getting hotter and hotter here in Da Nang recently. These days, I crave drinks more than food! 😂 The body needs to be hydrated all the time and what better way to do it than with something that’s fresh, delicious, and homemade?
That’s why I made my favorite homemade plum juice, using juicy plums that are in peak season right now in Vietnam, really abundant and really affordable!
Wanna make some with me? Let’s go!
Ingredients:
- 1.5 kg fresh plums
- 0.8 kg golden cane sugar
- A 3-liter glass jar with a tight lid
How to make it:
Step 1: Give your plums a good rinse. Then soak them in lightly salted water for 15 minutes to clean off any dirt or pesticides. Drain and let them dry completely.
Step 2: Cut around each plum without removing the seed so the juice can escape and the sugar can work its way in.
Slice off the top and bottom tips of the plums too. Well, it takes a bit more time, but trust me, it makes the juice so much better.
Step 3: In your clean jar, start layering the cut plums and golden cane sugar.
Each layer of plums, you pour golden cane sugar in. Do it more times until you fill the jar.
Now you have a jar full of plums and golden can sugar, seal it and place it in a cool, dry place. You will need to wait a few more days for the fermentation.
Let's watch the magic happen together with me.
After a night not many things happen yet. Golden can sugar melted by the plum juice but still has some sugar and plums on top.
Second night the plums totally soaked in the sweet juice.
And 1 week later, oh wow look at the beautiful ruby plum juice.
Now it’s ready to use, the juice from plums is already squeezed out and mixed well with golden cane sugar. The plums are a bit sour and sweet, and combined with golden cane sugar, you can tell, it is a really good combination.
Now let’s have some with me. Scoop out a few spoons of the juice and a couple of plums, add more water and ice.
Wow, a beautiful sweet-sour drink. I swear it is such a refreshing and delicious drink.
So that’s it for today. Easy and delicious drink you can make at home, and can share with family and friends. And you know what, if you don’t dilute it with water to water it down, it tastes a bit like wine hehe very fun drink that you should try.
I hope you like my post and see you in the next ones!
Sending love from Da Nang. All the photos were taken by me in my lovely kitchen.
