It sounded like there were a lot of conflicting opinions on the likelihood of contracting rabies, but nobody wants to take a risk when it comes to kids.

The fate of the dog was another matter. Some experts said that it needed to be in strict quarantine for 45 days. Others wanted to just put it down. The health department only required close observation for 14 days.
