In the center of the square is the monument to Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra, the Spanish writer famous for his work "Don Quixote"

The monument is made of a stone monolith with several statues, such as the two main female characters from the novel, Dulcinea and Aldonza. The five continents are also depicted, symbolizing the universality of Cervantes' work.
