Adjusted to Self
Well there it is - it is Thursday already. It has been an interesting week and despite a relative amount of chaos along the way, I woke up this morning and I felt great! I contemplated all the happenings since Monday as I had my morning cup of tea and I felt completely content, inspired and ready to tackle the day ahead - which is going to be a busy one!
Nothing real in life is perfect and things don’t always unfold as flawlessly as we might intend - but at the end of the day, the important thing is that we are able to hold our heads high and that there is peace of mind and heart. It is interesting how as you get older you learn to develop a higher level of inner strength and self-respect. When you start to realise your worth as an individual and that nobody can take anything away from you unless you allow them to, the challenges you face become that much easier to overcome.
The fact of the matter is that we will never be able to please everybody and not everyone will consider us their cup of tea - but that is ok. If we all got along seamlessly all the time, then nothing would ever challenge us, there would be no lessons faced or insights gained… and ultimately we would never grow internally.
Not all situations are positive, but there is always something positive that can be taken away from them. I am happy that I stood my ground this week, despite it taking its toll on me emotionally. I also realised just how much love I have in my life from the people around me - taking a moment to truly process that made me appreciate just how enormously blessed I am.
I read a quote earlier “I will not adjust myself to the world. I am adjusted to myself.” — Anaïs Nin - which so aptly depicted the experiences, reflections, realisations, feelings and truth regarding these last few days… and the second I read it, a sense of calm came over me because it was like a perfectly timed confirmation for the choices I made and the steps I took – a closure of sorts if you will – and this is important in our lives, especially when things get messy or we take a scary but brave stand for something.
