Greetings, friends of WOX. Today I'm bringing you a close-up cellphone session of a beautiful "stick insect," which I keep as a pet. The stick insect is known for its exceptional resemblance to dried plant branches and stems, which gives it excellent camouflage to protect and hide from predators like birds.

Photo N° 1: Scientific name: Ctenomorpha chronus

They belong to the Phasmida or Phasmatodea family, an order of insects commonly known as stick insects, with common names in each country. Their bodies are elongated and thin, and their coloration can vary from green to dark brown. They are primarily nocturnal, spending much of the day motionless, hidden among branches.

Their defining characteristic is that they have specialized in camouflaging their bodies, allowing them to blend in with vegetation. Their bodies, legs, and antennae are shaped to resemble twigs (stick insects), but also leaves (leaf insects), or tree bark (bark insects).

Other characteristic behaviors include remaining motionless for long periods, or swaying like a twig moving in the wind. They can also detach a leg to escape a predator.

Despite their appearance, they are completely harmless to humans. Their diet is herbivorous. Their size varies depending on the species, from a few centimeters to giant species measuring 30 centimeters or more in Asia and Australia.

Their bodies are roughly cylindrical. They have six limbs, extending from the thorax, two eyes, and antennae. Some species may have wings.

I did the digital editing with Lightroom, it was simple, aimed at brightening colors and cropping the photos for better viewing of details.
