The discreet charm of geraniums – color and tradition on the window

in WORLD OF XPILAR5 days ago

Geraniums (Pelargonium) are among the most beloved decorative plants in Romania and many other European countries. Originating in South Africa, geraniums have been successfully acclimatized and have become symbols of summer, frequently found in window boxes or on balconies. Their popularity is due to both the beauty of the flowers and their resistance to the sun and relatively easy maintenance.

Geraniums impress with a wide variety of colors – bright red, pink, white, purple or bicolor – but also with the types of flowers: simple, double or with fragrant leaves. There are several varieties, among which the best known are zonal geraniums, creeping geraniums and royal geraniums. Each type brings an aesthetic addition to the space in which it is placed.

In Romanian culture, geraniums have a special sentimental value. They are often associated with the image of grandparents' house, with care for simple things and a deep connection with nature. In addition to their decorative role, some varieties of geranium have aromatic leaves, used in perfumery or as insect repellents.

Their care is easy: they need plenty of light, moderate watering and periodic pruning to stimulate flowering. Thus, geraniums remain an ideal choice for flower lovers who want a window garden full of color and life.
