The rain hammered against the windows of Professor Alden’s cluttered office as he stared at the ancient map spread across his desk. The edges were frayed the ink faded but one marking remained clear a small golden ‘X’ near the peak of Black Mountain. For years pple had whispered abtlost Spanish gold hidden in those hills but no one had ever found it. Now with his university funding cut nd his career hanging by a thread Alden had nothing left to lose.

He packed his bag with a rusted compass a pickaxe nd his late grandfather’s journal the one that spoke of a "golden shadow" that moved with the sunset. Most dismissed it as a drunk old man’s rambling but Alden remembered the feverish look in his grandfather’s eyes when he spoke of it. "Gold isn’t just metal, boy. It’s alive. It chooses who finds it."

The Climb

The mountain was unforgiving. Thorny vines snagged his clothes nd the air grew thinner with every step. After hours of hiking Alden reached a narrow cave entrance half-hidden by moss. His grandfather’s journal mentioned a "door of light" bt all he saw was darkness.

Then as the sun dipped low something miraculous happened. A single beam of light shot through the trees, hitting the cave wall and for a brief moment a shimmering golden symbol appeared like a keyhole made of sunlight. Heart pounding, Alden pressed his palm against it.

The ground rumbled. Stones shifted. And just like that the cave opened wider revealing a tunnel lined with veins of gold so bright they seemed to pulse.

The Guardian

Deeper inside, the tunnel opened into a cavern so vast it took Alden’s breath away. In the center stood a statue of a woman, her outstretched hands holding a scale one side piled with gold coins, the other with withered leaves. At her feet words were carved:

"Wealth is not taken. It is earned."

Before Alden could react a voice echoed from the shadows. "You’re not the first to come here." A frail old man stepped into the light his clothes tattered but his eyes sharp. He introduced himself as Mateo the last descendant of the Spanish miners who’d hidden this treasure centuries ago.

"Many have entered," Mateo said "but none have passed the test."

The Choice

Mateo explained the legend: the gold was cursed or blessed, depending on the heart of the one who sought it. Greedy men saw only riches but the mountain demanded something deeper.

"Take one coin," Mateo challenged, placing a single gold piece in Alden’s palm. "If your soul is worthy, the mountain will give more. If not…" He gestured to a pile of bones in the corner.

Alden’s fingers trembled. He thought of his dying research his empty bank account the colleagues who’d mocked him. The coin felt heavy not with weight but with temptation.

Then he remembered his grandfather’s warning: "Gold chooses."

The Truth

With a deep breath Alden placed the coin back on the scale. "I don’t want it" he said. "Not like this."

A deafening crack split the air. The statue’s scale tipped violently nd the coins cascaded into a hidden chamber below. But the ground beneath Alden didn’t collapse instead the walls glowed brighter revealing something far more valuable: sheets of gold etched with lost knowledge maps of forgotten trade routes nd formulas for alloys stronger than steel.

Mateo smiled. "You didn’t come for wealth. You came for answers."

The Return

When Alden emerged from the mountain, he carried no gold only a notebook filled with discoveries that would rewrite history books. His university reinstated his funding but more importantly he finally understood his grandfather’s words.

Gold wasn’t just a metal. It was a test.

And he had passed.

Thank you for participating in the competition.

You're welcome it's honour!!🪷

Sin dudas el oro representa no solo un metal precioso, costoso, sino que a traves de él se miden muchas cosas, puede ser una prueba.

Gracias por participar en el concurso.

There's a lot of mystery surrounding gold. You can no longer be sure whether it's magic or a curse, or whether it's good or bad. What is certain is that anyone who wants it must be willing to take the risk.

Thank you for joining the contest.

Thanks for your nice words!🥰
Indeed Gold is mysterious it could bring luck or trouble..
