buying black Polybag plastic planting media

Tonight, before I retire home and go to bed exhausted from spending the day in the garden, I'd like to share my garden activities: building a nursery bed and purchasing black plastic polybags.

Today, thankfully, I received a loan from @xpilar to purchase black plastic polybags. I previously bought them in the village at a very expensive price, IDR 37,000 per pack. However, since I was in town this morning, I bought them in town so I could go straight to the garden. It turned out to be cheaper in town, selling them for IDR 25,000 per pack. Because of the very low price, I bought three packs, and with IDR 25,000 left over, I bought mineral water and snacks to drink and eat in the garden.

When I made the purchase, stem users can see the invoice below, along with the purchase price in the bottom image:

After purchasing the plastic planting medium, I went straight to the garden and put the soil into the plastic medium that I had bought, and here I spent time alone without friends, to put it into the plastic medium, which ranged from 100 to 120 plastic polybag planting mediums.

As evening approached, I watered all the clove seedlings I had planted earlier, noting that they were still healthy and fresh, under the shade of the areca palm fronds. This was because I built this nursery with reckless abandon, principle, and commitment.

Why do I say reckless abandon, principle, and commitment? Because I wanted to plant these clove seedlings in my garden because they offer many health benefits, such as:

  • clove flowers, a healthy spice ingredient, a raw material for making cigarettes, etc.

  • clove stems, a healthy spice ingredient, a raw material for making cigarettes, etc.

  • clove leaves, a healthy spice ingredient, a raw material for making cigarettes. etc.

  • cloves are one of the spices that can be exported abroad

  • very expensive; currently, the price of cloves per kilo ranges from IDR 140,000 to IDR 200,000 per kg.
So, with benefits like these, the local economy can be boosted by planting cloves and replanting to replace clove trees that no longer produce fruit.

I've also learned that even around these clove trees, between 1 and 6 months old, you can still plant young plants as companion plants that won't interfere with the clove's growth, depending on soil fertility and the multiple fertilization process. For example, these include:

  • banana trees, which protect the clove's growth period
  • chili plants
  • shallots, which protect against insect pests
  • lemongrass, which protects against leaf and stem pests

Although many people think that planting cloves won't grow well, as you can see, the seedlings I've created are ready to plant, and I've planted about 23 trees in the past week. I'll continue to update this post in the future as it develops.

Making nursery dams

Well, below is a nursery bed, which I surrounded with used planks. I made this to use for seed-grown seedlings. Since I didn't have polybags available today, I made this seedbed as an alternative to growing clove seeds that I collected from a large clove tree in the Aceh forest.

Now that I've purchased plastic polybags, these can also serve as seed containers. So, I first place all the seeds from the tree in the medium I've circled in red. Once shoots develop, I'll transfer them back to the plastic planting medium and wait for further growth.

Let's see below:

That's all I can say. I hope my nursery business will be successful and beneficial to the surrounding community. In the future, local residents can earn income and create new jobs from the clove planting and harvesting, for example:

  • planting in their own gardens,
  • picking clove flowers,
  • drying clove flowers,
  • etc.

I'll end here. Best regards
