What do you understand by Savory Appetizers?

As from the name appetizers it is clear that something which causes hunger. These are usually served before the main course of food. These are small in size. These are usually of one bite size. These are small but flavourful and delicious. They can be hot or cold. There are different examples of savoury appetizers such as chicken chunks, meatballs, cheese sticks, cheese platters, meat skewers, and so on.

Make any one savory appetizer

I have decided to bake chicken chunks in the style of BBQ. This is a famous dish all over Pakistan and in my area as well. People love to eat BBQ at home as well as outside. It is the part of many events and picnics. So let us start baking BBQ.

Here are the required things to bake BBQ at home:

  • Ginger
  • Garlic
  • Red Chilli Powder
  • Salt
  • Black Pepper Powder
  • Turmeric Powder
  • Orange Food Colour
  • Cumin
  • Coriander Seeds
  • Coriander Leaves
  • Lemon
  • Yoghurt
  • Chicken
  • Oil

So these are the required things to start baking BBQ at home. Here is the complete step by step process to bake BBQ.

Boneless Chicken

First of all I have taken boneless chicken. It is half kg chicken. It is better to use boneless chicken for the BBQ. The size of the chicken pieces must be small not large.

Garlic

I have taken garlic 🧄. I have peeled off the garlic completely. This garlic will be used to make a paste to mix with the other spices.

Ginger

Here is ginger. I have also removed the upper thin peel of the ginger. I will also grind this and make it's paste.

Black Pepper

Black peppers add a unique taste to the BBQ. I have taken some black peppers to add in the recipe. I will use them in the powder form.

Chicken Tikka Masala
Yoghurt

Here I have collected all the spices at one place and then I will mix these spices in the yoghurt to make a marination paste so that the paste can penetrate in the chicken pieces easily and we can have a good taste.

Mixing Spices in Yoghurt

Here you can see I am mixing the spices in the yogurt to make the marination paste.

Marination Paste

Here you can see our marination paste is ready to use I have mixed all the spices in the yoghurt well so that it can become a homogenous mixture.

Chicken Marination

I have mixed the chicken pieces well in the marination paste. Marination paste is more than required. But it will be applied completely on the chicken pieces. I kept it in the bowl in fridge for around 2 hours.

Skewer 🍢🍡

After marination I have used skewers to skew the chicken pieces to bake BBQ directly on the fire. The chicken pieces were soft and they were skewed easily. I skewed four pieces in one skewer.

Direct Baking of BBQ using Skewers

I baked them very hardly because due to continuous rain electricity was not available. But still I tried my best to bake these BBQ on skewers perfectly. I used sharp fire to bake them perfectly. I applied some oil on the skewers and chicken pieces so that they could not stick with the skewers.

Directly Baked BBQ

Here you can see all the BBQ pieces which I baked directly on the fire. Now they are in the final stage before serving.

Applying Ghee and Baking it in the Pan

This is the final stage of baking BBQ before serving. I applied a spoon of ghee to the BBQ. Then I covered them completely and baked them at very low flame. A delicious and appetising odour started coming out of the BBQ. Now their colour also be and brown and they were ready to eat.

Ready to serve

Here you can see BBQ are ready to serve. The delicious and spicy chicken chunks in the firm of BBQ are ready to serve. It was the night time without electricity. But still I managed to make a good presentation by adding cucumber, tomato, and some slices of capsicum.

Serving with Raita

It is the best combination to eat BBQ with yoghurt raita. It adds more richness of taste. It makes the BBQ more appetising and delicious. I ate these BBQ and their taste was amazing and I was feeling like I am enjoying the outside at restaurant. Each piece was tender and delicious with mouth watering odour.

Give some other examples of Savory Appetizers that you like?

Here are some other examples of the savoury appetizers which I like to eat:

  • Finger fish
  • Shami kebab
  • Pakoras
  • Chapli Kebab
  • Chicken Wings
  • Spring Rolls
  • Cutlets
  • Mini Naan Bites with Chicken or Beef Filling

What should be the right portion of serving of appetizers?

In my opinion the right portion of serving appetizers is before the start of the main dish. We should serve it before the main course. If we are late in our main course of food to serve then we can serve the appetizers. Moreover if someone is not ready to eat main course of food then we can serve the appetizers to boost their hunger and encourage them to eat. Moreover it can also depend upon the situation or event and focus of served foods according to the desires and likings of people.

I invite @animal-shelter, @lirvic, and @ninapenda to join this contest.
