Nigeria is a country with so many tribes, and each tribe has its own culture, traditions, and traditional foods. Currently, I am in the northern part of Nigeria, where the traditional food among the Eggon culture is butter beans, which are also known as Lima beans.

The butter (Lima beans) is a traditional dish that plays a significant role in marriage ceremonies in eggon culture. The beans are different from the normal beans that we used to eat, which are not even found in the southern part of Nigeria where I am coming from, but in egg-on culture, it is a highly respected dish. The beans are prepared with sesame and palm oil, which is known as Ebekme or Ebiekpere within the eggon tribe. Less I forgot, the Eggon community is found in the Akwanga Local government area of Nasarawa State, Nigeria.

Due to the popularity of the traditional dish called Lima (Butter beans), I am excited to share it with you just the way the Eggon people are always excited when eating this dish. Let's start by looking at the ingredients of the traditional dish:

Ingredients:

Cooking

One of the disadvantages of cooking these traditional beans is that it does take time to do, and it is not advisable to cook when you are feeling too hungry to eat because it would take much of your time and make you feel hungry the more, so it is not a fast food. Let's keep that aside and look at the process of cooking Butter Beans (Lima Beans below 👇

13. Served for Eating
  1. You will have to wash the native beans before putting them on fire
  2. After washing pour into the pot of water
  3. Allow to boil until it is half done, then wash or parboil
  4. In my case, I parboiled
  5. Put back on the fire and allow to cook until it is soft
  6. Remove from the fire, when it's properly cooked and soft turn into a sieve to remove excess water
  7. Fry the black beniseed on a low heat for about 3-4 minutes
  8. Pound until it's smooth
  9. Already pounded
  10. Turn the beans into a clean plate or bowl
  11. Pour in the black beniseed into the beans
  12. Add the palm oil to the beans and stir
  13. Served🤭😋 for eating

The above process is the perfect way of cooking egg-on culture beans; without these beans, your marriage is not complete in the egg-on community. Hahahah, 😆 😂 it is just the simple truth because it is included in the bride price when marrying someone who is from the Eggon community.

As someone who intends or wants to marry a lady from the Eggon community in Nasarawa State, just put it at the back of your mind that Butter Beans (Lima Beans) will be included in your marriage list. Marriage is not complete without these beans in the Eggon community. The beans look so common but it is highly recommended for marriage and cultural activities.

@josepha sir, how are you?
Almost every country in the world has different traditional foods. They enhance the pride of each country. For example, you mentioned Lima Beans in your country. This is definitely important information that you need to wait patiently to eat lima beans. This food cannot be prepared in a hurry.
Another important piece of information is that if you want to get married in the state of Nasarawa, you must include this food in your food list.
I learned a lot from the tutorial you created. You have presented each step of the tutorial beautifully. The presentation is truly impressive.
Here I have a question -

Are Lima Beans eaten directly like this?

Or Lima Beans eaten with any food?

Thank you very much for giving a wonderful Traditional Cuisine gift, and I wish you success in this challenge.

It is eating directly like this, but you can top it with meat which goat meat and pok meat are the best for eating it. It is just a native beans that is cooked in a local way which the people knows how to prepare it more better. Thanks for your support.

@josepha sir, thank you so much for your valuable feedback. I think it will be more tasty when will be added goat meat or pok meat is added.

I've never heard of this beans, then the preparation is very detailed and I've saved this information to maybe have a taste of this beans. For it to be included in a marriage list, it means it is a known food nad very important for the tribe.

Wishing you success 👍

Yeah, I am not surprised that you haven't heard about the beans because it is a local bean that is commonly found in the Eggon community. Thanks for your support.

Yes I know that, but I'm glad to hear about this beans, in case I travel to your area I will like to have a taste of it.

Sure you will have a taste of.

Hahaha hahaha 🤣 😂 hahaha hahaha 🤣 😂

It's very funny. I laughed a lot after reading your post and your recipe was very delicious. A man who marries a woman from the Aegoon community has to make this dish a top priority in his wedding. If he doesn't, is his marriage not valid? I told this for the first time today. If you heard it, you must have laughed a lot. When I heard it, I laughed a lot too. You are right that this dish sounds a bit bland, but it is recommended for weddings and cultural events. Thank you very much for inviting me. Good luck for the contest.
🤌❤️🤞

The dish must be provided and it is the raw beans that must be provided by the so it can be cooked on and served to people on the day of the traditional marriage. Thanks for your support.

My pleasure 😁
