SLC-S25/W5 | Community World Tour: Traditional Music and Dances
Assalamu Alaikum,
Hello everyone,
I am @selina1
From #Bangladesh
I'm starting by wishing all my Steemit friends good health. Like every week, I'm here to receive great things. Today's engagement challenge is a different and interesting topic. The theme of this engagement challenge is "SLC-S25/W5 | Community World Tour: Traditional Music and Dances". So let's get started.
"The Story Behind the Words"
Choose a traditional musical instrument, rhythm, or dance move and tell the story of its origin. Was it associated with a ritual, season, work, or celebration? If possible, interview an elder. Pin its geographical origin on SteemAtlas.
Here, of course, I will choose dance. There are social events in Bangladesh where dancers perform to dance to Bengali songs. So I will share the story behind the dance with you. Annual sports competitions are organized once a year in various schools and colleges in Bangladesh. And on the day of this event, there is usually a cultural and prize distribution program in the afternoon.
I studied at Adarsh High School in our area called Dhirashram. Since I was studying, I have seen that the students in this school who do various tasks responsibly on this special day are usually scout students. Throughout the day, teachers in the school make the students play games and choose the winners from there. In the afternoon, before giving them prizes, the students are asked to recite the Quran, but one person starts the program by first reciting the Quran, then poetry, songs, dances, etc. However, our school organizes a slightly different type of program.
Here, in the evening, during the award ceremony, guests give speeches and the students of the scouts start the program by dancing to Bengali songs. Here, the students select any Bengali song and dance accordingly. Then, if there is any hesitation in the program, many of them dance intentionally, but if not, we start the award ceremony. Here, no one is forced to dance.
The story behind the dance,
On the day of this annual sports competition, the parents of the students and various types of people come to watch the program. So that they do not feel bored, this exceptional program has been organized by the school teachers and committees since the past. However, in the past, ordinary students used to dance and sing along with the scouts, but with the evolution of time, the students have now reduced the dance and song program, so now the scout students have maintained the tradition of the program by dancing.
This school is in my area, so I am present here every year and enjoy these programs. This year I went and my cousin was also here, she was happy, she got many awards. But to start the program, some scout girls held the cultural program of the program with a dance. Because now there is no cultural program like before, but these scout girls held the program with a dance.
Through these school programs, parents, general students and those who come to see can enjoy this program with joy, so they are very eager for this evening program all day long. It is a lot of fun to meet old friends on this day.
"Video Women, musicians are calling you, come and show your dance steps."
Here they dance to the rhythm of any Bengali song. If I can't sing and dance very well and I can't stand in my school and enjoy the dance, I also recorded some parts of it as a memory. So that video is given below.
TYPE LESS SMILE MORE
This dance of the scout girls not only gives us joy but they have also maintained the tradition of this school. Because the cultural programs of this school are not as lively as before, some scout students of the school maintain the tradition in the afternoon with their dance and entertain the audience. So we are proud of this dance of the scout students.

You beautifully shared bangali dance with us and it's quite similar with dance steps of Pakistan....Dance was interesting but i was expecting that you in a video will also explain comprehensively about dance origin that is it traditional or just performed for sake of joy and fun at sports competition as you are sharing in your post
Good luck 🤞
Thank you for your participation in Community World Tour – Week 5: Traditional Music and Dances. Here is a detailed and fair evaluation of the post by @selina1, according to the official evaluation rubric for Community World Tour:
Evaluation Summary
Final Score: 8.0 / 10
Remarks:
This post provides a lovely portrayal of the cultural tradition of dance in Bangladesh, particularly during school events, and highlights the efforts of the scout students to preserve this tradition. @selina1 presents an authentic experience that celebrates local customs. However, for further improvement, more in-depth cultural context or a clearer explanation of the dance’s origin and significance would add more depth to the post.
Thank you for sharing this heartwarming tradition with us!
