Macau is a small yet remarkable region on China’s southern coast, along the Pearl River Delta and facing the South China Sea. It originally consisted of the Macau Peninsula and two islands, Taipa and Coloane. Over the years, large-scale land reclamation projects connected Taipa and Coloane, creating Cotai, an area now famous for its modern resorts and casinos.

The Macau Peninsula, which borders mainland China, is the oldest part and the most densely populated, blending historic sites with urban life. Taipa features both traditional villages and new residential areas, while Coloane remains greener, with hills, forests, and beaches offering a peaceful escape.

Macau covers about 33 square kilometers today, having expanded significantly from its original size. Its subtropical climate and coastal setting shape both its natural landscape and its cityscape, where modern developments stand beside historical architecture, reflecting a unique meeting of East and West.
