Yoga and me

in #yogalast month

Last week was Yoga day, 21st June and I was watching that everyone was putting up some or the other yoga pictures of theirs on their Facebook and Instagram profiles. I was feeling good to see that so many people are adapting to yoga practices. Though these days there are many variations of Yoga and a lot of aerobics is also mixed up with yoga, but then as far as one is doing some sort of physical fitness that is the most important thing, then be it Yoga or any other form. But there are advantages of doing Yoga over other fitness forms. Because in Yoga we not only train our body but also our mind and breadth, which is the biggest differentiator.

While doing Yoga, we focus on our breadth, we count the inhales and exhales which regulates our breathing, some of the yoga asanas are complex and for that our full focus is needed and patience as well, because complex poses cannot be achieved on day one itself, it takes time and effort and it's a gradual process. It's slow and steady teaching us patience and perseverance, bringing more awareness to the body and mind. In the process our thoughts are also observed. For people who have difficulty meditating, I tell them to start with simple yoga practices, because here you are able to bring your focus which eventually will help you in good meditation.

After so many years of Yoga also there are somethings that I cannot do and I have come to acceptance of that. Before I used to keep fighting with my own body and forcing it to do what it was not willing to do. But then I realized that my body is not wanting to do that, so I should calm down. I gave my best for years trying it out and after that also if it's not then possibly it does not want to. As such I am not a person who would give up on anything so easily but in the recent years I have come to this understanding that sometimes it is best to surrender and this knowledge also I have gained through my regular Yoga practice.

With Yoga we do Mudras and Pranayama, all of this together is a power pack therapy for the mind, body and soul. Some of the commercial yoga classes miss the essence of real yoga, they majorly do aerobics and a few yoga positions, they cut out the Mudras, Pranayama, chanting, meditation all of these finer aspects of Yoga. In that case one is doing simple exercises and nothing else.

Regular Yoga practice keeps me fit and active.

I will always want to maintain this rhythm because I know it's very beneficial for me.
